Las Olas Boulevard in sunny Fort Lauderdale is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Among the boutique and chain art galleries and shops are a number of dining options. When I was visiting town for a meeting recently, my colleague and I dined at Johnny V’s with clients and had an excellent meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
We arrived early and I, always liking to sample the local craft beer, whet my palette with a Key West Southernmost Wheat from Florida Brewing Company. During drinks we looked over the extensive menus, offering a variety of global wines and cheeses. My favorite part of the evening was the cheeky names given to some of the dishes. I ordered the Duck Duck Duck for my entrée and my colleague and clients shared a good laugh at one of the items buried in the cheese menu. The option at the bottom of the domestic cheeses read “Cheez Whiz, Philadelphia, PA, light and airy, super soft, no aging, good until 2112.” Our server informed us this was just one of the ways the chef has fun with the menu, and it was not actually available to order (with accompanying cheesesteak or not).
If you go, don’t miss the delicious tapas sharing platter, or forget quarters for the metered street parking in the area. You may want to leave your ‘cheesy’ jokes at home, as Johnny V’s already appears to have a whiz in that department.

Insta FeedAre You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?
Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
