Bookworms and literary lovers, this is the itinerary for you.
Adventure Canada brings storytelling to each of its expeditions, through music, artwork, resource specialists and local guides, including authors, musicians, historians, culturalists and scientists. The company is taking that concept a step further this season, introducing the first-ever Floating Book Club on its Newfoundland and Wild Labrador expedition. Co-hosted by Canadian authors and storytellers Doug Gibson, Terry Fallis and Kathleen Winter, the 13-day voyage departs July 5.
Beginning on Saint Pierre, travelers visit Newfoundland, exploring the French, First Nations, Basque and Viking influences in the area. In Labrador, guests visit the Inuit homeland, Nunatsiavut. Other trip highlights include Gros Morne National Park, the Torngat Mountains National Park and polar bear, whale and seal spotting.
Joining travelers on the ship are the three acclaimed authors. Doug Gibson, author of Stories About Storytellers, will lead the Floating Book Club and perform an exclusive performance of his one-man play, as well as offer insights into the work of Alice Munro. Kathleen Winter will take readers through Annabel, her novel set in coastal Labrador. Terry Fallis will present his The Best Laid Plan, which won two humor awards.
