The Just Ahead National Parks App turns your phone into a personalized audio tour guide. Instead of renting bulky sound equipment, download the free app and experience the best the National Parks have to offer.
Inspired by founder, Gregory Morse’s six-week road trip around the southwest of the United States in 2013, the app combines the best of audio tours and the portability of smartphones. Seasoned writer Bob Howells provides colorful, informative descriptions of the parks.
The audio guides can work without an Internet connection or phone service and can use the phone’s GPS to provide customized, location-based tours. Built-in maps with highlighted points of interest help set this app apart from traditional audio guides.
“I like to think we’re following in the bootsteps of John Muir. I hope that by sharing the beauty and the stories of special places such as our national parks, we’ll inspire a deeper appreciation for them — and that they will be preserved for future generations to enjoy them as we do,” says Howells.
In addition to the National Parks, guides are available for California Highway 1, Route 66, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Hawaiian Islands and other popular road trip destinations. Guides are available for in-app purchase for $7.99-$9.99 and include free updates.
