Those of us from first-world countries often take for granted the water we drink. In many areas of the globe, sanitation technology is limited and access to clean water is a luxury. In areas like the forests of the Amazon in South America and deserts of North Africa, this problem is more extensive, and for travelers in these areas, water quality is always a concern. Luckily, Camelbak released a water bottle capable of purifying unclean water and keeping its user hydrated.
The All Clear Water Purification Bottle ($99) utilizes UV technology to nullify contaminants, making the water safe by EPA standards. The process completes within 60 seconds and the results are displayed on the LCD monitor on the lid. The device runs on rechargeable lithium batteries — each charge functioning for more than 80 uses (16 gallons). Additionally, this product is completely BPS- and BPA-free, and only available in the United States.
The All Clear Pre-Filter ($15) is an alternate lid that catches larger deposits of sediment. This product is designed to work with the All Clear bottle before you use the purification system and is sold separately.
For a cheaper alternative, try Camelbak’s Groove line of water filtration bottles ($20–35), which are available in standard, stainless steel and insulated designs.
