While most first-world countries have the luxury of abundant, clean water, many developing areas around the world do not. What little sanitized water these places do have is often rationed and used strictly for the purpose of drinking. For visitors, this means there might be little to no excess water for cosmetic needs like keeping teeth white. Luckily, VIOlife developed an alternative way to keep toothbrushes clean that does not require water: the toothbrush sanitizer. Inspired by the high-tech sanitation equipment found in dentists’ offices and hospitals, this lightweight, portable device is perfect for those volunteering in or visiting developing countries in areas around the world.
The VIOlife Toothbrush Sanitizer ($30.00) uses a unique germicidal ultraviolet light to kill 99 percent of the bacteria, mold, spores and other microorganisms found in the average toothbrush. After inserting the toothbrush into the holder and sealing the device shut, it takes just a mere seven minutes to completely clean the head and bristles. Once complete, its auto-shut-off mechanism is triggered, and the toothbrush is ready to be used. This model runs on two AA batteries and works with most toothbrush sizes.
