L.A. Cetto winery is just one of many wineries dotting the landscape along the popular Ruta del Vino outside Ensenada’s Valle De Guadalupe. It’s popular among locals for the affordable wines and as a place to hold wedding receptions when the vines are in full bloom.
The grounds are surrounded by acres of grapes draping from wooden stakes in the ground and the rolling hills Baja is known for. We opted not to take a guided tour of the facilities and instead went straight for the tasting. I guess you know where our priorities lie.
L.A. Cetto had three separate options for tasting that made it affordable for all guests, even the broke among us. The cheapest tasting cost less than $5 for four glasses of wine. Not too shabby, we figured.
Of course, we kind of cheated the system by purchasing one of each price range and sharing our glasses. They didn’t seem to mind, so I’m guessing it was a standard strategy. In case you aren’t fluent in Spanish, all the staff was well versed in English in order to handle out-of-towners.
L.A. Cetto seems to excel in providing sweeter wines more so than dry. The tasting room is decked wall to wall in bottles, resembling a large wine cellar aboveground. Many of the options were surprisingly affordable, with a few coming in less than $10 a bottle. We ended up buying eight different bottles altogether, all of which were part of the tasting, so clearly we were impressed with what they had to offer.
After the tasting we walked around the grounds for a bit taking pictures and posing underneath the vines that hang over many of the walkways. It makes for a relaxing, albeit short, trip with friends for a couple of hours out of the day.
