Le Prive rests in the center of Cotonou, just next to the Cathedral de Notre Dame, making it ideal for travelers looking for an upscale, delicious meal. The décor of the restaurant is luxurious without being pretentious and one could come dressed casually without feeling out of place.
The wait staff at Le Prive was attentive and helpful, great since the menu was entirely in French and my friends and I weren’t exactly sure what we were ordering. We opted for the five-course meal and everything came out fantastically. The steaks were some of the most tenderly cooked I’ve had in years. I will say the waiter standing just a few feet away watching us eat seemed a little odd, but it wasn’t so off-putting it ruined the meal.
They offered Champagne upon arrival, a great perk, and had a pretty good selection of wine available as well. Overall, I’d say the ambience was relaxing and it would make a great place to host a business dinner or simply a romantic date night with a significant other.
The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch and, while the menu was pricey, it was easily one of the best restaurants I ate at during my stay in Cotonou. I would highly recommend it to friends and family during their visit.
