Food & Drink

Anyone who has ever dreamt of learning to cook in one of the world’s most iconic cities can now make that dream come true.

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) may be world-renowned, but it’s also accessible. Located in the heart of New York City, ICE offers dozens of recreational classes open to the public at an affordable price.

Upcoming courses include tutorials in everything from backyard barbeque to Danish pastry making and artisan doughnut sandwiches. There are additional courses available on food media and the business aspects of running a restaurant, with fall offerings on blogging and how to launch a new culinary product.

Sandwiched between Lower and Midtown Manhattan near Madison Square Park, the ICE is surrounded by attractions tailor-made for food lovers. Chef Mario Batali’s popular Eataly, a unique marketplace/restaurant for Italian food, is within walking distance.

Accommodations in the area are diverse enough to accommodate most budgets, with choices ranging from hostels to stylish boutique hotels. The Mave Hotel falls under the latter category for those in search of New York’s legendary urban sophistication. The Chelsea Hostel is also a short distance from the ICE, and private rooms can be booked for under $100.
