James Bond often plays baccarat and James Bond, if you can forgive the womanizing (that has largely disappeared over the last decade and a half), is pretty cool. Hell, the guy saved the world on a number of separate occasions over his career in His Majesty’s service.
If you enter a casino, especially in Asia, baccarat is the preferred game and it does offer some of the best odds of all casino games, essentially finding itself only behind craps in this department, and, while it looks all sorts of confusing, it’s not. It’s actually no more difficult then gambling on a coin flip. While there can be as many as 10 players around the table at the same time, each of these players has the same option as you do: Bet on the player or bet on the dealer.
The player, in this case, is not a specific player, but just not the house. Only two hands are dealt with each hand receiving two cards and then a strange set of rules determines whether or not the player or the dealer receives a third card or, on some occasions, they both do. You don’t need to know these rules. End of the day, the higher hand wins and you win or lose based on that one bet you made earlier and you are paid, minus a small commission. It looks cool, but requires zero skill. But, a bit of luck will certainly help you walk out a winner.
Look at that, you already play baccarat like a pro, in that no one really plays baccarat at all. Don’t be intimidated.
