Sitges is a beautiful island getaway off the coast of Spain and the epicenter of the LGBT community in the country, and maybe even all of Europe. It’s actually quite ridiculous how many gay bars, restaurants, clubs and guys are lining the beaches here.
You’ll want to head straight to Carrer de Joan Tarrida, the center of the tightly knit Gay Village of Sitges to get the party started. For places to stay, be sure to check out Parrots Sitges, a gay-friendly hotel just 100 meters from the beach. For a cheaper place, look into Casa Rainbow, a minimalist bungalow right by the shoreline.
At last count, there were roughly 30 gay bars to choose from in Sitges, with Bar 7 and Backstage two of the most popular. There are so many to choose from, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a place that suits you best. Sitges also has a couple of saunas in Parrots and Sauna Sitges to chose from if you’re looking for a place to get pampered.
For food, you’ll want to check out Le Patio for some delicious French eats or Queenz if you’d like a little entertainment while you eat; they put on drag shows here for the diners.
Overall Sitges is something of an LGBT mecca, though admittedly it does tend to favor gay men, and you’ll find it welcoming toward everyone who visits. It’s the perfect vacation spot for couples or singles that want to be able to relax without fear of discrimination.
