Bangkok Tree House was inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden and is more of a destination experience than simple accommodations. The Tree House is thoroughly committed to being entirely green and organic, from their four visitor “nests” to their dining experiences to their wedding packages.
The nests range in sizes to accommodate families, couples and single travelers. The largest, the Family Nest, has two bedrooms, a shared bathroom and three different rooftop patios. Two other similar nests accommodate two or three visitors each in typical suite-style living spaces. The View With a Room, however, is anything but typical, suspended 23 feet in the air, with no walls or ceiling, just two beautiful, candlelit bamboo platforms connected by a walkway.
Bangkok Tree House is relatively inexpensive, ranging from $125 to $309 during the peak season of December–January. They have several discounts, too, for visitors who practice sustainable living — you’ll get 15 percent off your room rate if you bring your own bicycle and another 15 percent if you refrain from using your cell phone for the duration of your visit. There are also lots of added perks and amenities, including all-you-can-eat organic ice cream and free bike rentals.
The Tree House does warn potential visitors that the experience isn’t for everyone. There are lots of insects, lizards and other local species welcome on the property, as well as in the natural pond swimming pool. Most of the showers are outdoors, there’s no air-conditioning in the public spaces and the Tree House is only accessible via foot, bike or boat.
While this may seem like a hassle for some, to nature lovers, Bangkok Tree House is a peaceful sanctuary only a short bike ride away from the hustle and bustle of some of the more tourist-oriented attractions of Bangkok.
