The iconic Hollywood Sign celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023.
On Dec. 8, 1923, the 45-foot-high illuminated sign debuted, originally reading “Hollywoodland” as an advertisement for an upscale real estate subdivision. Since then, the sign became a treasured symbol of Los Angeles and Hollywood history. In late 2022, the nonprofit Hollywood Sign Trust partnered with Sherwin Williams on an extensive refurbishment ahead of the centennial celebrations.
“From the Golden Age of Hollywood to the beating heart of today’s entertainment industry, The Hollywood Sign has presided over a century of Los Angeles history and allure,” said Adam Burke, president and CEO, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. “We are eager to welcome visitors from around the globe to come celebrate The Hollywood Sign in its 100th year and revel in all the exceptional experiences that can only be found in Los Angeles.”
Los Angeles Tourism honors the special occasion with a variety of special events throughout the year, including live tapings and studio tours. Warner Bros. and The Walt Disney Company also celebrate 100 years in 2023.
Take part in live tapings of The Voice, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Kelly Clarkson Show, American Idol,America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Jeopardy!, The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune. Popular studio tours include Warner Bros. Studio Tours, Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour, Paramount Pictures Studio Tours, Sony Pictures Studio Tours and The Walt Disney Studios Tour.
