A walking tour incubator grant program facilitated by the Alliance for Downtown New York produced five new walking tours highlighting Lower Manhattan in unique new ways beyond the typical tourist attractions. The tours are led by entrepreneurs who completed the incubator grant program’s two-month training process, which included coaching from tourism industry professionals. Each entrepreneur also received $12,500 through the program to bring their walking tour idea to life.
“Pack your walking shoes on your next visit downtown because these new tours will make the perfect addition to any Lower Manhattan itinerary. There’s something for everyone, with each offering a fresh perspective on the neighborhood,” said Jessica Lappin, president, Alliance for Downtown New York.
The new tours focus on topics such as LGBTQIA+ activism, with stops at historic sites that helped shape the LGBTQIA+ Rights Movement; Seaport scandals, looking at news headlines that shook the area over the last two centuries; religious freedom and fortune, exploring the multiple draws that have historically brought immigrants to Lower Manhattan; all things local, with an audio experience introducing participants to locals and their lives; and culinary tours, featuring favorite chefs and restaurants in Lower Manhattan.
