Just a short walk from the iconic Cape Fear River is one of Wilmington’s best-kept secrets — Luna Caffé. This quaint hipster haven is the destination of much of the port city’s counter-culturists.
Here, visitors will be greeted by the old-fashioned storefront window. Inside, the old brick walls are decorated in pieces of original art from local artists, as well as a number of unique mirrors and picture frames. While waiting, patrons can sit among the strange assortment of mismatched furniture featuring black leather couches, metal patio sets and long wooden tables, and enjoy a game like Connect Four or Rock em’ Sock em’ Robots. Near the rear of the café is a small television playing one of the dozens of vintage VHS tapes stacked against the wall.
At the counter, guests can enjoy the likes of the friendly staff as they dish out staples like hot coffee, specialty teas, muffins and pastries, along with fruit smoothies — perfect for a hot summer day.
Additionally, the café is the frequent host of art exhibits and live musical performances from local musicians. Owner Will Chacon even teaches drum lessons in the store, turning this quiet, humble café into a sound machine.
