The Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival celebrated its sixth year earlier this month. The two-day event featured a festival, beach party and parade.
More than 100,000 people attended the 2014 festivities. The free festival welcomes more than 125 LGBT-friendly vendors and businesses. Expect to see celebrities; this year’s Grand Marshall was actor Mario Lopez. Held in Lummus Park, the festival included musical performances, refreshments and a family-friendly play area. The VIP kick-off reception started at 7 p.m. April 10. Tickets for the party were $75 in advance, or $100 at the door. All ticket proceeds benefitted Miami Beach Gay Pride
The hour-long parade started at 12 p.m. April 12 and followed the length of Ocean Drive along the Art Deco district. For the fourth year, Miami Beach Gay Pride awarded the best entry in the parade contest. The winner encompassed the most creative approach to celebrating pride and will be acknowledged on the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade plaque at Miami Beach’s LGBT Visitor Center.
