Food & Drink

Macau may be known mostly for its gambling scene, but the food here is reason enough to cross the ocean. The Michelin Guide, considered the top food-rating system around the world, has rated several restaurants in Macau with highly sought-after stars and Bib Gourmand ratings.

Garnering three stars for “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey” is Macau’s Robuchon au Dome, a contemporary French restaurant inside Macau’s iconic Grand Lisboa Hotel. The Eight, a Chinese restaurant, also inside the Grand Lisboa, has earned three stars as well.

Earning two stars for “excellent cuisine, worth a detour” are Golden Flower, a Chinese restaurant inside the Wynn Hotel, and Zi Yat Heen, which serves Cantonese cuisine inside the Four Seasons Hotel.

Seven restaurants have earned one star for being “a very good restaurant in its category.” Among them are Jade Dragon (Cantonese), King (Cantonese), The Golden Peacock (Indian), The Kitchen (Steakhouse), The Tasting Room (French contemporary), Tim’s Kitchen (Cantonese) and Wing Lei (Cantonese).

Several restaurants have the ranking of Bib Gourmand, meaning Michelin’s inspectors have found them to offer high-quality cooking for $300 or less for a three-course meal with drinks, a relative bargain compared to the incredibly pricey starred restaurants. Among them are Xin, offering excellent Asian hotpot inside the Sheraton Macau Hotel. Recent additions include Portuguese restaurants A Lorcha and Manuel Cozinha Portuguesa.
