New Jersey boasts 130 miles of beautiful coastline from Sandy Hook to Cape May. For many in the tri-state area, going to the shore is an annual tradition. If you aren’t familiar with the Garden State’s beach offerings, choosing the right destination from the dozens of shore towns may be overwhelming.
Here’s our breakdown of the best beach towns New Jersey has to offer.
Avalon: There is no commercial boardwalk. It’s the perfect destination for families looking to rent a house for a peaceful summer beach vacation.
Stone Harbor: The town has a quiet, upscale atmosphere and is known for small boutique shops, restaurants and wildlife.
Cape May: A Historic Landmark City, many Victorian homes have been converted into bed and breakfasts. Check out the free Cape May Zoo.
Sea Isle City: This town offers prime fishing opportunities. There are plenty of bars and nightclubs, perfect for late-night entertainment.
Ocean City: With eight miles of beaches and two miles of boardwalk space, Ocean City offers something for everyone.
Atlantic City: While several big casinos have closed in recent years, Atlantic City still proves to be a hotspot for casinos, entertainment, shopping and fine dining.
Long Beach Island: Situated about six miles from the mainland, the 18-mile long island boasts a beautiful coastline, an amusement area and hundreds of shops and restaurants.
Island Beach State Park: The state park is for serious beach lovers. There is no boardwalk or shops, but the area features a wide variety of wildlife and places for nature walks. Be aware: There is a vehicle fee to access the beach.
Wildwood: Wildwood is home to a popular boardwalk and beachside amusements at Morey’s Piers with rides, treats and activities.
Seaside Heights: If you’ve watched The Jersey Shore, you’ve heard of Seaside Heights. This popular attraction-heavy town sees high numbers of visitors every summer.
