It’s your worst nightmare: Your plane is taxiing and you’re looking out the window, only to realize you’ve left your iPad or laptop in the airport. Thanks to a new feature from Apple, these fears can be allayed, ensuring we always know where our valuables are, whether traveling or at home.
Apple recently introduced Share Item Location, a new iOS feature to help users locate and recover misplaced items by securely and easily sharing the location of an AirTag or Find My network accessory with third parties like airlines. The shared location will be disabled as soon as a user is reunited with the missing item, and the function can be stopped by the owner at any time.
Now available in most regions worldwide, the feature will soon be available to all users as a free software update for iPhone Xs and later.
You can generate a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. The link will take you to a website that shows a location of the item on an interactive map, and the website will automatically update when a new location is available, showing a timestamp of the most recent update.
