Food & Drink

For those looking to get away from the typical nightclub or dive bar scene of the city, New York’s Barcade might be the answer. The idea is simple: combine access to vintage arcade games with local craft beer. Originally founded in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn in 2004, this phenomenon quickly gained popularity and expanded to three other locations in Chelsea, Jersey City and Philadelphia.

At the Williamsburg location, the atmosphere is everything. The high ceilings and simple layout of what used to be a metal shop create a sort of natural gathering spot for locals and travelers alike.

Additionally, each location is powered completely by wind-generated power, attracting many patrons solely because of their profound green proclivity.

The Brews

Each bar features a wide assortment of local craft microbrews like Victory, Dogfish Head and Sixpoint Brewery, among others. They even, from time to time, showcase exclusive new beers like Harpoon’s now popular Sriracha Blonde.

The Games

From household names like Punchout, Ms. Pacman and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, to obscure titles long forgotten like Cheyenne, Mappy, and Robocop The Game, Barcade has just about every vintage arcade game imaginable. Perhaps the most appealing part is that each game costs but a mere quarter to play.
