After a three-year hiatus, Northwest Rafting Company returns to Bhutan for its unique experiences combining rafting and culture. Excursions kick off in November.
Three trips are currently available Nov. 3 –11, 5–19 and 13–21. A typical day includes rafting or kayaking in the morning, with cultural visits in the afternoon. Experience Bhutan’s monasteries and shrines, as well as the natural environment of the Himalayas. Other highlights of the tour include a visit to a handicraft school in the capital city of Thimphu, viewing the largest Buddha statue in the world, exploring 400-year-old fortesses and hiking to the cliffside monastery Tasktsang (also known as Tiger’s Nest).
Nine-day trips cost $4,195 per person and the 15-day trip costs $5,995 per person. Pricing includes lodging, camping and rafting gear, group meals and entrance to cultural sites. Travelers are responsible for their own airfare to and from Paro, Bhutan.
“Known for its commitment to low-impact tourism and rich cultural offerings, Bhutan is a peaceful place that feeds the spirit,” said Zachary Collier, owner, Northwest Rafting Company. “The Bhutanese are warm and gracious, and their hospitality is legendary.”
