Qatar might not be on everyone’s radar when it comes to deciding on places to visit, but Doha is actually a pretty spectacular place with unique architecture and a warm, welcoming environment for all. Whether you’re on a layover or decide to just give it a try on its own, here are a few things to check out while you’re there.
Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum of Islamic Art is certainly a highlight of this beautiful city. While the interior artwork tells the historical tale of the city, it’s really the architecture of the building itself that’s the real draw. Architectural genius I.M. Pei developed a building that stands out prominently among the city’s skyline.
Corniche
The waterfront is Doha’s cultural heart and there’s no better place to explore it than the promenade known as the Corniche. It’s home to the Amiri Diwan, the old royal palace as well as an enormous hotel in the shape of a pyramid. Spend some time checking out the dhow, traditional Gulf sailboats, and maybe catch a ride if you feel inclined.
Souq Waqif
Get your shopping on at Doha’s largest bazaar, the Souq Waqif. It’s arguably the biggest tourist spot in the city and home to rows of luxurious Persian rugs, spices, antique jewelry and crafts.
West Bay
The West Bay district is the place to party. There are numerous cafes, bars and hotel lounges to waste the evening away in while sipping on some pretty strong drinks. Whether you’re looking for great music or a delicious meal, you’ll find it here.
