Panama City Beach has been making a name for itself for a while as an accessible travel destination thanks to its Fun. For. All. initiative. Now, that initiative is growing further with new offerings and developments.
One is the Bay County’s first fully accessible beach boardwalk at Edward F. Hickey, Jr. Park. This park offers handicapped parking spaces, an accessible beach ramp and more than 100 feet of mobility mats. Additionally, Camp Helen State Park has been outfitted with an accessible ramp and pier; a beach wheelchair is also now available at the park’s visitor center.
Panama City Beach also recently achieved a Wheel the World Destination Verified Seal. The platform assesses destinations on their accessibility by looking at attractions, hotels and restaurants in the area.
“We are proud to continue our focus on the ‘Fun. For. All.’ initiative to ensure visitors and residents of all abilities feel welcome within our destination and community,” said Dan Rowe, president and CEO, Visit Panama City Beach. “With Panama City Beach’s new ADA beach access point and partnership with Wheel the World, we are excited to continue our momentum as a top accessible destination.”
