Food & Drink

Dining out is a fun, social experience and now you don’t even have to leave Fido at home! Many restaurants are catching on to the canine craze by offering seating (usually outdoor) for people with pets and even serving dog-friendly dishes.

One clue to a dog-friendly restaurant is a water bowl placed on the sidewalk or by the front door. Most places open up patios or outdoor spaces for pets in the warmer months but reserve the interior for people only. When in doubt, always ask the owner and, as always, be courteous with your pet.

Dogs can tolerate a surprising amount of human food, but it is not a good idea to make feeding scraps a habit. Some locations offer dedicated dog menus or have a supply of treats on hand for four-legged friends. Again, when in doubt, err on the side of caution and stick to the kibble.

Check out the website Bring Fido, which allows you to search by city for pet-friendly restaurants. This website is the equivalent of Yelp for pet owners; in addition to restaurants, there are pet-friendly activities, accommodations, events and travel tips.
