Over the last several years, Philadelphia experienced a pizza boom. There are tried-and-true spots famous to locals, and newer pizza joints with national recognition. Whether you want a classic cheese slice, a gluten-free option or something in between, Philly has a pie for you.
Start your Philadelphia pizza journey with one of the city’s mainstays. Tacconelli’s Pizzeria in the Port Richmond neighborhood is known for its tomato pies. Cacia’s Bakery is a South Philly institution with five additional locations in New Jersey. The spot is known for its square slices and mix-and-match flavor options. Lorenzo and Son’s Pizza on South Street is known for its oversized slices, typically consumed after bar-hopping in the neighborhood.
Pizzeria Beddia caused a stir in 2015 when Bon Appetit named it the best pizza in the United States and again in 2019 when Time listed it as one of the “world’s greatest places.” The famous Fishtown spot has grown since then, with a larger dining room and staff, though its thin-crust pies are as delicious as ever.
The already popular Angelo’s Pizzeria was featured on Barstool Sports in November 2019, which only increased its popularity. While its “upside down jawn” thick-crust square pie is a crowd favorite, don’t overlook the many other pizza varieties at Angelo’s.
If you like your pizza with a side of intrigue, check out Circles + Squares from Pizza Gutt. The pizza chef creates pizzas for a few different shops. Circles + Squares offers either thin-crust circle pies or Detroit-style, thick-crust square pies. Pizza Gutt brings Circles + Squares pop-ups throughout the city, as advertised on Instagram.
Keep in mind, due to COVID-19 restrictions, some of these restaurants adjusted hours and dining options. Be sure to check the website before your visit.

If you’ve ever attempted to work on the go — not necessarily for a business trip, but just because your job offers the flexibility of remote working — you may have struggled with working from your hotel room. Your options are typically plugging your laptop in next to a tiny in-room table, if you’re lucky, or you’re stuck answering emails from your hotel bed — hardly conducive to productivity.
