Planning on recording your travels either via podcast or a YouTube channel? Recording your sound for either video or audio with a simple iPhone can result in poor quality. However, you don’t need a huge or expensive set up to enjoy high-quality, professional sound easily.

The Snowball iCE, created by mic producer Blue, starts at $50. It comes in a small box, and, once unboxed, is about the size of a softball. The tripod folds up into a narrow, short bundle, just a few inches in length, making it easy to throw into a suitcase or backpack for transport.

When you’re ready to use, simply pull it out, set it up and hook the USB cord from the back of the mic to your Mac. Then, you can use your QuickTime player to make a recording — just set it up to work with an external mic. Even the most tech-illiterate users can easily figure it out! The results? CD-quality audio for any voice software.

Not really planning to record audio on your trip? If you’ll be gone for a while and want to stay in touch with family and friends back home, the Snowball iCE is Skype-certified to guarantee great audio no matter where or how you’re using it.

You can order the mic online, but you can also easily pick it up at a selection of stores, including Best Buy and Staples.
