REI is simultaneously the workhorse and gold standard in outdoor equipment, and their Camp Dome 2 Tent lives up to that legacy. A two person tent just more than six feet in length, it’s an affordable option for casual campers. The interior is well ventilated by two screened panels on either side and high screened openings on the shorter sides. Pockets at either end are large enough to hold personal items, and a clip in the peak of the ceiling is perfect for setting up a battery-powered lantern. The rain-fly is proportioned well to keep all moisture out of the tent.

Set-up is easy, great for beginners or amateur campers. The footprint is large enough to be comfortable, but small enough to be practical for a range of campsites. The bag it comes in is large enough to fit everything without a hassle, a huge plus for those who have to store their camping equipment in apartments. The colors are a muted green and white, with accents of burnt orange. It’s enough to make you stand out in the woods for safety, without the gaudiness of traditional neon.

The tent isn’t designed for winter use, with thin walls and floor. Cold seeps in easily, so be sure to pad the floor with mats or an extra blanket or two. Although the length is great and it is possible to sit up, it’s not a tent designed for hanging out. It’s for those who want a tent in which they can sleep and store personal items during the day, but not for anyone who wants a more high-tech camping experience.
