Products / Technology

In the era of the Internet, tech-minded start-ups are finding ways to transform everyday objects and catapult them into the future. From suitcases to potted plants, everything is part of the digital age now, and Ring is the latest WiFi-enabled device to hit the home.

Ring is an advanced doorbell which utilizes a 180-degree, 720p spherical camera capable of streaming video to an Internet-connected device. When a visitor rings the bell, your smartphone’s app will alert you, offering two-way voice communication and a one-way video feed. Furthermore, Ring is planning on adding the feature to act as a motion detector for your front lawn, sensing and recording any movement in front of the door, and sending the file to a cloud for future reference.

The device must be within WiFi range to work, which might be a hassle depending on your home. Ring attaches to your door by snapping onto a screw-plate, which in itself is secure, but there’s nothing keeping someone from simply taking the plate off. Despite these gripes, Ring works well for people who need an extra eye on their home, whether they need extra security or simply want to tell the delivery guy to hang on.

Learn more about the device at ring.com.
