If you’re interested in helping the environment but aren’t sure how to go about it, consider signing up for an Earthwatch Expedition.
Earthwatch is an international charity organization whose goal is to help save the environment by teaming up scientists and average citizens to work toward solving some of the planet’s biggest problems. They do so through their Earthwatch Expedition program.
There are numerous program options available among four different categories, depending upon your interests. Wildlife enthusiasts can help scientists track penguins through Patagonia or search for ways to bring lions and prey back to the savannah. If you’re more interested in archeology, they have programs that allow you to explore ways to help the Canary Islands or research the Ikh Nart Nature Reserve in Mongolia.
Ocean animals take center stage on their trips to protect shark populations in Belize and scuba diving missions to save manta rays off the coast of Australia. Climate change combatants can help find ways to stave off rising temperatures in Borneo’s rainforests or discover how the weather is affecting caterpillar populations in Costa Rica.
There are dozens of programs to choose from and each one is a fantastic way to learn about and help research ways to save the world. Check out their website for a full list of all the opportunities Earthwatch has available at this time.
