Traveling, in its most simple form, is exploring, viewing, and discovering new locations and cultures. When people cannot physically step foot somewhere, like a tropical island passing by your cruise ship, they can use binoculars to bring themselves closer and experience the setting. Sony improves on this idea in a large way. Their new line of digital recording binoculars allow the user to not only survey his or her faraway surroundings, but also record them in the process.
The Sony DEV-50 V/B ($1,999) has settings for both full HD as well as 3D recording, and can film at up to 25-times magnification. Its hyper grain feature allows filming in low-light areas, and with its SteadyShot stabilization system, blur is easily reduced. It also features a brilliant high res OLED viewfinder. The relatively lightweight but sturdy one-pound, 10-ounce rainproof and dustproof design includes an HDMI port for the purpose of viewing recordings on a digital television or a computer. Other features include autofocus that can be used concurrently with the zoom system, and a memory card slot that supports both SD cards and memory sticks.
Sold separately are a series of compatible accessories, including a 5-inch LCD Monitor ($399.99), a Remote Control Tripod ($599.99) and rechargeable batteries ($99.99–159.99), among others. Learn more at Sony.com.
