Reviews / Restaurant

Red Platter was a delightful surprise during my visit to Naga City in the Philippines. This unassuming restaurant located on Magsaysay Avenue is a popular joint among locals and tourists, and, after one trip, it’s not hard to see why. The ambience is relaxing, yet friendly, with a focus on family-style dining that encourages you to mingle with other diners.

The food itself is an eclectic array of choices of Western, Asian and Bicolano cuisine. I sampled the beef karakere during my initial trip here, and it was absolutely delicious. The peanut sauce was on point and a wonderful surprise, as I was expecting something with fewer flavors than they managed to pack into it. I will say the appetizer offering was a little lackluster, but they more than made up for it with the wealth of cakes, cookies and other desserts on the menu. I couldn’t resist a taste of the halo sa buko, which contained a hearty sampling of fruits, ice cream and gelatin inside half a coconut. While I didn’t manage to save room for any of the cakes, they all looked incredible.

The staff here was absolutely delightful as well. Friendly, warm and happy to answer questions, they were all exceptional at their job.

I would definitely recommend Red Platter to anyone traveling to Naga City and fully intend to stop in again on my next trip to town.
