Once listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Red Rocks Amphitheater is the only naturally formed, acoustic amphitheater of its kind. The two 300-foot monoliths of sandstone create a near perfect sound for an outdoor concert seating almost 10,000 people a show.
Since the early 1900s famous musicians have been put playing Red Rocks on their bucket list. Sting, The Beatles, U2 and so many more have found the magic there, despite the extra challenge of singing in the thin air of a 6,450-foot elevation.
With views of city lights behind the stage, you couldn’t ask for a better outdoor concert experience. But, that’s not all Red Rocks has to offer. It’s a 640-acre park with trails filled with geological history. It’s a fitness junkie’s playground with steep steps that’ll set your quads on fire. It’s a musical history museum in the basement of the amphitheater. And, it’s an outdoor movie theater in the summers.
Every summer Red Rocks hosts “Film on the Rocks,” showing a screening of a featured movie every Tuesday night. You can bring your own blankets and food; they have a wide selection of beer and cocktails available.
When there’s not a concert or a movie, there’s “Yoga on the Rocks” every Sunday, where yogis gather in one of Colorado’s most beautiful natural landmarks to stretch on the steps of the amphitheater.
On any summer visit to Colorado, Red Rocks should be on the list.
