Finding a good travel pack can be an uphill battle, to say the least. It can be tricky to decide between a top-loading pack, a standard backpack or a suitcase. The problem with top loaders is it’s difficult to get to things stowed in the bottom or middle of the pack, but REI’s Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack solves that problem splendidly.

The pack’s front zips open, displaying all of contents easily. It’s a breeze to remove your toiletries or choose a pair of shorts for a day of sightseeing. The pack also has two side pockets and a top pocket for even more organization possibilities.

Light packers will love the size of this pack. It’s enough to pack all of the essentials, but it definitely isn’t one of those massive backpacks so many backpackers tote around.

The harness and hip belt can be zipped up to keep them out of the way, which is especially helpful when you’re carrying your pack onto the plane. Yes, the pack fits most carry-on size regulations. It’s easy to hoist up to the bins, and because it’s capacity is only 40 liters, it shouldn’t be overly heavy.

At $119, the price isn’t bad, either. This is definitely one of the more affordable travel packs available. Plus, with REI’s excellent return policy, it’s easy to take the Vagabond 40 back if it doesn’t quite suit your travel style. Learn more about the Vagabond Tour on their website.
