Tips / Travel

Rent for less when you travel with FlightCar, a peer-to-peer car sharing service that allows travelers to park their cars near airports for free.

Currently operating at San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Boston (BOS), Seattle (SEA), Philadelphia (PHL), Dallas (DAL) and Washington, D.C. (IAD), FlightCar enables travelers to rent their vehicles out to other approved traveling members for low rental rates instead of paying for parking and leaving their car unused at airports. Car owners also earn extra cash when their car is rented, based on the mileage the car is driven.

The service provides free drop-off and pick up in a town car for both owners and renters. In addition to earning a cut of the rental fee and free parking, car owners also get a complimentary car wash, even if their vehicle isn’t rented.

Rental rates vary depending on the year, make and model, but prices are consistently 40–50 percent lower than those of typical rental car companies. Every renter using the service is pre-screened prior to renting.

Additionally, FlightCar offers protection for both owners and renters, insuring each vehicle for up to $1 million on property and liability.

“If you list your vehicle with FlightCar, you are completely covered,” said Kevin Petrovic, co-founder and president, FlightCar. “There is no deductible. Your personal insurance coverage is never on the hook. We cover $1 million in liability for you, per incident, and that is primary coverage in case of any incident. We also cover the full value of the car in case of collision/damage, and that is also primary, with no deductible. We cover every penny of damage. Every time.”
