Germany has beer and France has wine, but Barcelona, Spain, has its choice of a few signature alcoholic drinks pushing their way into the forefront of the Spanish wine scene. Once such cocktail is the Aperol Spritz, a concoction of the orange-hued liqueur Aperol with Italian prosecco and a splash of soda water. The result is a bright orange glass of refreshment that most opt to enjoy during the hot Mediterranean summers.
Building on the popularity of this drink is a Port Vell–adjacent bar with a theme hardly up for questioning. Aperol Spritz Bar is a near assault on the sense with its brightly colored orange décor, cool yellow lights and wire high-top tables and bar stools.
On the drink menu, the main attraction is the star of the Aperol Spritz show. For imbibers who fancy cocktails made with other liquors, the bar boasts only a few options of each type of liquor (gin, whiskey, vodka, etc.), unlike the variety of bottles on display at other bars. All cocktails and beers are served with a bowl of potato chips, while other small Spanish plates decorate the small but sufficient food menu.
For drinkers seeking diversity, other watering holes might be more suitable, but for a well-made, authentic Aperol Spritz, the bar with the same name is the best bet.
