Nestled in the charming town of Saint-Sauveur in Quebec, Lola 45 is a quaint restaurant serving rustic French-inspired dishes. Many restaurants line the street, but Lola 45 stands out with its charming patio boasting cozy seating and large-bulb string lights overhead.
My group was quickly seated. The menu, though simple, was overwhelming with tasty options. With the exception of a few standards, the menu changes often to reflect the season. Our knowledgeable waiter offered stellar suggestions both of meal choices and wine pairings.
We opted for a few starters to share for the table including foie gras, tuna tataki, fish cakes, shrimp and avocado salad and Lola 45’s take on a Caesar salad. While every bite was packed with flavor, my favorite by far was the Caesar salad. The intact head of romaine lettuce was topped with creamy dressing, crunchy croutons and parmesan cheese. I enjoyed the first course sampling and had difficulty selecting my main course. After much debate, I chose the wine-braised beef cheek with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. The hearty flavors were perfect for the fall weather.
I spent the earlier part of the day at a maple syrup festival, so my sweet tooth was fulfilled. Instead of dessert I opted for the cheese plate. The assortment of local cheeses with crostini, jelly and dried cranberries was the perfect end to my meal.
My only complaint about Lola 45 is it’s not located closer to my home. The charming restaurant is worth the trip.
