I arrived at the NATIV Hotel Denver around 3 p.m., after two flights and a long Uber ride from the airport. The boutique hotel is in a small, brick building in a trendy part of town, giving it the appearance of a restaurant or bar rather than a hotel. The property is known for its basement Stereo Lounge, where you can often find famous faces from Wiz Khalifa and Waka Flocka to Snoop Dogg and Chanel West Coast. However, the lounge is only open Friday and Saturday, so I didn’t have a chance to check it out in full action.
Through the week, the hotel is relatively quiet. The small lobby, which features a bar and coffee station, is decorated with plush sofas and translucent flooring looking down on the venue below. The check-in process took a few minutes, but then I was led to my third-floor guestroom.
My guestroom featured dark wood floors, a small workspace with a hanging television, a spacious glass shower exposed to the rest of the room, a vanity and a separate powder room. A door led to a small patio with a seating arrangement. The modern, fun décor reached its height in the shower, vanity area and bathroom, where the floors and walls were overlaid with alternating dark and light wood paneling, for a slightly dizzying effect.
Through the week, guests can dine at the hotel’s Biergarten, where you’ll find a self-pour, 20-tap beer wall filled with local brews. The food is excellent, and you’ll do well to order the lobster roll sliders ($18) or the chocolate mousse cake for dessert ($8).
When booking at the NATIV Hotel Denver, you can choose your individual room by number and view photos of the particular space before committing, a nice touch. The location is great for exploring the downtown area and is only a short ride from the Colorado Convention Center, as well as the Broncos’ stadium. All in all, my only complaints were my difficulty maintaining a consistent temperature in my guestroom and my difficult figuring out the entertainment system.
