Reviews / Restaurant

The city of Leeds is experiencing something of a culinary boom, and there are plenty of restaurants vying for your custom.

While there are a number of Thai eateries in town, Thai Edge is perhaps the most formal. Situated just off Millennium Square, the restaurant lives up to its upscale location with glitzy décor and extravagantly dressed staff.

Guests are shown to seats by waitresses in traditional Thai dresses, and seated at huge white-clothed tables. Buddha statues abound, and there is even a large fish tank that serves as a partition wall.

Service is attentive, despite the large number of covers, and staff is happy to explain the extensive menu. From classics such as pad Thai to more obscure street food favorites, Thai Edge has it all. The main dishes were delicately spiced, accompanied by fragrant jasmine rice that served as the perfect foil. My chili beef certainly packed a punch that might have put off more sensitive palettes, but fans of spice will have no cause for complaint.

All in all, Thai Edge offers great food in an unusual setting. The décor verges on kitsch at times, but there is no forgetting you are in a Thai restaurant.

The bill came to $25 per head with a drink. Highly recommended.
