Review: The Last Slice, Thessaloniki

Nestled along a backstreet in Thessaloniki is a surprisingly delightful little pizza joint that rivals anything you’d find in Italy or New York. Or even Chicago, if that’s your thing. After a long night of drinking at a couple of local bars I found myself wandering the streets with a friend in search of a late-night snack to staunch our craving.

We stumbled upon The Last Slice, a cute little shop with communal seating on the sidewalk. It was after 11 p.m., when we happened upon the place but the staff was still upbeat and ready to cook when we stopped by. They took our order and told us to pay after we ate. The food is cooked after you order so it’s incredibly fresh, though it can take a little while to finish. It was definitely worth the wait.

The margarita pizza we ordered was probably one of the best I’ve ever had and it was pretty affordable, especially compared to American prices. Overall it was roughly $2.50 a slice, plus a few extra bucks for drinks. The neighboring restaurant will also bring over alcohol if you’re in the mood, which we discovered thanks to some locals dining at the table with us.

They have some Greek meats to throw on top of the pizza, so some of it can get spicy if you like it that way. Overall, I’d happily recommend this spot to a friend for a quick bite late at night or a good meal during the day.
