By now you’re probably familiar with probiotics and their potential benefits to the digestive system, but you may be less familiar with the newest trend in digestive health, prebiotics. While probiotics are live bacteria helpful to your digestive system (they’re in things like yogurt and fermented foods), prebiotics are dietary fibers that promote the growth of helpful microorganisms in the intestines. Research shows the body benefits most when it has plenty of both in the system, and triathlete Kellie Lee used this research, and plenty more, when developing the Rowdy Bar.
Rowdy Bars are prebiotic-packed energy bars developed after Lee’s gallbladder was removed and she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism but didn’t want to give up on her health and training, so she took a deep dive into researching nutrition and digestive health. Made with no artificial flavors, the paleo-friendly, non-GMO and gluten-, soy- and dairy-free bars are made with fewer than 10 whole food ingredients each and concentrate on the three Lee finds most beneficial: egg whites for powerful protein; nuts and seeds for protein-packed healthy fats; and yacon root, the natural sweetener with the effects of fiber Lee calls her prebiotic gut superhero.
Rowdy Bars can be found in stores throughout the central and northern United States (check the website for the closest location to you) and can be purchased directly from Rowdy Prebiotic Foods online. They’re currently available in Blueberry Almond Tart, Sunflower Butter N’ Berries, Peanutty Dark Chocolate and Chocolate Coconut Cashew varieties.
