Latin America is not renowned for its authentic curry houses, but Sabor de la India bucks the trend in an unlikely setting.
Despite the popularity of curry around the world, true Indian restaurants do not seem to have caught on in Latin America. Given that fact, it’s certainly surprising to find a curry house in Guatemala’s second city, Quetzaltenango, but you will definitely leave with your craving satisfied.
If you manage to find a curry house in Latin America, they tend to be overpriced and offer miserly portions. In that regard, Sabor de la India is a winner, with huge servings of a variety of dishes available for around $8. The chef hails from the Southern Indian province of Kerala, and the food is certainly authentic.
Choose from curried vegetables, chicken or prawns, served with rice and fluffy naan bread. Wash down your meal with a thick Lhassi milkshake or a selection of beers, while attentive staff are always on hand to ensure your every need is,met.
The restaurant is a popular option with locals and tourists alike, and offers ample seating without feeling cavernous. It must be said Sabor de la India serves the best curry I’ve eaten in the whole of Latin America, and no trip to Quetzaltenango is complete without a visit.
