Durability is often the primary cause for concern when choosing a pair of mountaineering boots, but Salomon Footwear believes speed should be a consideration too. That’s why they’ve developed a line of mountaineering boots meant to keep you moving at your optimum rate.

Salomon currently offers two different categories of boots, their Mountaineering Approach collection and the S-Lab series.

The Mountaineering Approach collection contains two options. The X ALP PRO GTX is designed with the expert mountaineer in mind. Durable leather is combined with an added gaiter to give you extra speed over alpine terrain. It also contains water-resistant cordura, a 2.5-millimeter rubber toecap and a gusseted tongue. It retails for $280.

Meanwhile, the X ALP MTN GTX is extra light and designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. It comes with forefoot-protected eva, 3D-edging chassis and 1.5-millimeter waterproof Nubuck leather for a price of $25.

For true speed, look no further than their S-LAB X ALP Carbon GTX. The boot is superlight with sprightlier Carbon Edging Chassis and a lower cut that sits slightly above the ankle. It contains protective ankle pads, two layers of compressed eva, zip gaiter, a protective mudguard, heel foam and strap and more. Best of all, it comes in sizes for both women and men.

For a cool $300, it’s a bit of a steal, we think. Learn more at salomon.com.
