Trends / Food & Drink

Ecuador has a rich history of creating scrumptious treats, thanks mostly to the abundance of flavored cocoa beans in the country. This led to them producing more high-quality chocolate than any other nation in the world. All of this is celebrated during one delicious event — Salon de Chocolate.

The annual event is a derivative of the French celebration due to the historical prevalence of France’s influence in the region after colonization. Both countries have a flair for creating some of the world’s most delectable chocolaty treats and they take great pains in showcasing that during the spring season.

Salon de Chocolate is held in Quito at the Catholic University and includes numerous competitions, presentations and workshops that help teach visitors the ins and outs of chocolate production in Ecuador and the importance of flavored cocoa beans to the economy. Some fun competitions include the Best Ecuadorian Chocolate Bar and the Best Chocolate Cake. Of course, there’ll be plenty of each for you to sample.

The event brings together international chocolate experts and lasts throughout the weekend, offering up some of the most mouthwatering chocolate delicacies in the world for you to try. You’re likely to put on a few pounds while you’re there.
