Every day in the United States, more than 221,000 paid hotel rooms are cancelled, resulting in $8.6 billion wasted annually on non-refundable hotel room cancelations, according to a Forbes article.
Travel website, Roomer, helps refund the nonrefundable. Known as the “StubHub of the travel industry,” the website enables those who need to cancel hotel reservations to recover at least some of their money with an online marketplace where users can post their reservations online and sell to other travelers looking to score a deal.
For those looking to sell, you can list your reservation on Roomer with all the details and set a price. According to Roomer, set prices are typically around 37 percent off the lowest rate posted on Expedia. When someone nabs the deal, Roomer contacts the hotel and arranges to change the name on the reservation. Following the checkout date, Roomer then pays the user by PayPal.
Those who want to book a discounted hotel can search Roomer listings for desired dates, accept a deal and enter payment details. Roomer then takes charge of the transfer so the hotel you booked is expecting you under your name. Though the room is prepaid via Roomer, a credit card still has to be provided to cover incidentals.
