Sea to Summit released an impressive line called Travelling Light, which has a range of simple items designed to make travel easier and more efficient — while not adding weight and bulk. Among the most appealing items is a compactable day pack called Ultra-Sil, a simple backpack that miraculously scrunches down into a bag about the size of a small fist.

When unpacked, the day pack measures 11 inches tall by 8 inches wide. Its weight is just 2.4 ounces, making it a no-brainer addition to your luggage or backpacking gear. In just a few seconds, the user can easily turn the pack inside out and cram it into its miniscule stuff sack (which comes sewn into the lining of the pack) and tuck it into a purse, bigger pack or suitcase. It’s there when you need it, but conveniently stays out of the way and doesn’t add much extra weight.

The pack itself is described as “low profile” by Sea to Summit, meaning it’s pretty simplistic. You can’t fit much more than a water bottle and a few other essentials, and there are no bells and whistles like external pockets, chest or hip straps, interior netting for organizing, etc. That’s largely a good thing, as keeping it streamlined saves on weight, but don’t expect the usual day pack attributes.

The pack is incredibly sturdy, given it’s constructed with Siliconized Cordura® and has Bartack-reinforced stitching at stress points. The fabric won’t easily tear or puncture, so your minimal investment of $32.95 will go a long way. Learn more at seatosummit.com.
