Is Setting Spray Necessary?

Setting spray: It’s one of the products professional cosmetologists recommend, You Tube beauty gurus rave over and magazines commend. Yet, most people do not own setting spray. This product is a facial spray designed to keep makeup on for long periods of time, despite sweat or light physical activity.

A few different brands of setting spray are currently on the market. One time-tested favorite is Urban Decay’s All Nighter. This weight-less, long-lasting setting spray retails for between $14 and $30. Clinical trial results showed more than 80% of users felt their makeup stayed better after using Urban Decay’s setting spray for seven days, whether they had oily, dry or combination skin types.

Another well-loved, slightly less expensive product is the NYX Long-Lasting Spray. This spray gives makeup a matte finish, allowing it to set on the face and stay for hours. Reviews on this product are also overwhelmingly positive, with users saying it allows their makeup to stay on their face longer.

If you are regularly out for long periods of time during which you cannot reapply makeup, a setting spray would be a useful tool to carry in your makeup arsenal. This is particularly true if you enjoy clubbing, going to concerts/festivals or even long days at the office. If you already have a high-efinition powder like e.l.f. Studio HD, you probably do not need to invest in setting spray. For most people, the two products serve a similar function — giving your makeup a matte finish and allowing it to stay on longer.
