With near perfect weather year-round, Angelenos love to dine alfresco and enjoy some of the city’s best views as a backdrop. From the westside to downtown L.A. and beyond, some of these rooftop spots across the city pair delectable cuisine with relaxed open-air vibes. For those looking for a rooftop spot for a date or dinner with friends, check out these restaurants.
Perched on top of Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, this spacious rooftop offers a beautiful, garden-like setting on its open-air terrace. With views of Los Angeles from every seat of its large patio, the casual-upscale spot presents dishes leaning toward market-fresh American-Italian with menu highlights including lobster burger, crispy French fries with caviar and wagyu beef tenderloin. Grab a favorite drink like the raspberry lychee Bellini or watermelon mojito and catch the sunset (on a clear day) over the horizon.
Atop Platform in Culver City, margot presents an indoor-outdoor space with a greenhouse-like indoor section and an outdoor dining terrace boasting 360-degree city views. Inspired by coastal Mediterranean cuisine, margot’s market-driven menu from Chef and Culinary Director Mike Williams offers favorites like charred broccoli and bombolotti, along with ample vegan options for lunch and dinner.
On the rooftop of The Hoxton, Downtown LA, Cabra offers a vibrant, Peruvian-inspired menu by acclaimed Chef Stephanie Izard. With décor to match its flavorful and colorful menu, the food is meant to be shared, whether in the dining room or the sun-soaked bar and patio, which allow diners to overlook downtown Los Angeles. Bold in flavor and bright in taste, make sure to try the hot chorizo and queso dip topped with herby chimi and chip crunch, served with taro and plantain chips and warm flatbread; or chicken empanadas with flaky, homemade dough.
Mama Shelter’s L.A. rooftop allows you to take in striking, 360-degree views of all of Los Angeles, from the Hollywood sign to Downtown, from South Bay to the Westside. Located in Hollywood, the restaurant’s décor is fun and colorful, offering a vibrant atmosphere and a Californian cuisine open daily for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Some of the standout dishes include Le Royale Burger and Vaja fish tacos.
Just steps from the ocean, Élephante transports guests to the Southern Mediterranean with the spirit and cuisine of coastal southern Italy. The all-day rooftop restaurant and bar allows guests to relax in the casual-chic atmosphere overlooking Santa Monica Pier and ocean. From its seasonal, market-driven fare to the expansive craft cocktail program and wine list, diners will revel in this upscale beach vibe, taking in the sun rays or the sunset.
Drawing inspiration from a sister property in Mexico City, LA Cha Cha Chá boasts 11,600 square feet of space with views facing the downtown L.A. skyline. Through local ingredients, chef Francisco “Paco” Moran celebrates the ever-growing and diverse lexicon of Mexican food in Los Angeles, with offerings like Ceviche de Callo and Tostada Terrazzoa. The new Arts District rooftop echoes 1950s and ‘60s Acapulco with a mid-century aesthetic and more than 150 plants.
Terra at Eataly brings a slice of the Italian countryside to Los Angeles on the third floor of Eataly at Century City. Centered around the wood-burning grill, Terra serves authentic Italian food like the popular Arrosticini and Grigliata Di Pesce. Whether enjoying sunny brunch/lunch or a romantic dinner, enjoy views of the Hollywood Hills alongside the outdoor lush and bright terrace and bar.
In Hollywood, The Highlight Room is situated on the rooftop and poolside at Dream Hotel. The 11,000-square-foot rooftop venue offers 360-degree views of Los Angeles, presenting a relaxing getaway during the day and nightclub vibes in the evening. Fresh, California-inspired cuisine from the breakfast and lunch menus are offered daily, while stopping by for Golden Hour cocktail specials from 5 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday is highly recommended. Every weekend, enjoy a revamped menu of brunch classics and dance the night away in the evening at Highlight Nights.
E.P & L.P. Rooftop has been a staple of West Hollywood since 2015 thanks to its 5,500-square-foot outdoor garden oasis. Overlooking the Hollywood Hills and Sunset Strip, it is home to one of the largest roof terraces across L.A. The rooftop menu features food from the second-floor restaurant space and modern Mexican eatery BOMBO to complement the hand-crafted cocktails. Launched for the summer and sunny rooftop season, the weekend brunch menu is replete with breakfast favorites such as fried chicken and waffles and chilaquiles with a selection of breakfast cocktails.
Others to note include High Rooftop Lounge, Above SIXTY, Perch, Mother Tongue, KA’TEEN, Merois, Cork & Batter, The Green Room and Bar Funke.
