Veteran travelers can get sentimental about the frequent-flyer lifestyle, but nothing eases the drudgery of airport security. Thankfully the new CLEAR Card is now available to make the check-in process move more quickly.
Similar to the TSA’s PreCheck and Global Entry program, the CLEAR Card is $179 a year for the ability to skip the standard security line at the airport. The program works with a registered card and biometric data that is presented at a CLEAR station in participating airports. Registration requires a wealth of private information to get approved, including two forms of ID, background checks and thumbprint and retinal scans.
When you get to the kiosk, a biometric scan verifies your identity and you are allowed to go straight to the x-ray machine. CLEAR agents are present to help you with the process and escort you through security. Although you don’t have to wait, you will still have to remove your belts, shoes and laptops before you go through the metal detector.
CLEAR stations are currently available at several locations around the country, including San Francisco (SFO), Denver (DEN) and Dallas (DFW). Las Vegas (LAS) and Miami (MIA) are set to open stations as well. You can learn more about the program on the website.
