Many travelers like to take a moment and look up at the sky. It’s a good practice to look up and wonder at the stars in any country. It reminds people how big the world is and how small problems really are. It helps to put things into perspective and it’s also entertaining. The stars have stories and make up interesting constellations. To enjoy this pastime even more, people should know what they’re looking at. Learning the basics of stargazing will help people find this activity more fun. It’s also not difficult to learn and beginning down this path can lead to becoming more educated on space, the cosmos and the planets.

For complete beginners to astronomy, the first step is getting oriented in the night sky. People who wish to stargaze need to know what they’re looking at when they look at the sky. It is helpful to learn different markers in the sky, such as the Northern Star and common constellations. Something else useful when stargazing for the first time is learning how to measure distance in the sky. It’s easy to find the stars, but some stars are harder to see or less bright and knowing how to measure distance will make stargazing an easier activity.

When trying to locate the constellations or a specific star, it is easy to use a star map to help locate it until one can find it on their own. Using the star map helps people get situated with the sky and makes the stars easier to understand. The sky map can be found online or via an app.
