The dead of winter is just beginning to set in, meaning it is the perfect time to start planning outdoor adventures for when the weather finally breaks. The whole world is filled with places to explore, but put these spots at the top of your list this spring.
In Georgia, consider Lake Winfield Scott. This lake is perfect for an early-spring foray because it is open year-round. As an added bonus, the recreational area even includes a cabin, in case tent-styled roughing it isn’t your idea of fun. The lake provides a beautiful backdrop and several kinds of campsites, from bare-bones tents to electric-equipped plots.
Still in the Deep South, consider visiting Sam Houston Jones State Park in Louisiana. This state park is well-loved locally and perfect for camping. It offers plenty of campsites of different calibers for guests looking for all kinds of different experiences. These sites offer the benefit of feeling like true backwoods experiences while still being in accessible spots. The park also has hiking trails, boat rentals, fishing and much more.
A bit of a different vibe, Tishomingo State Park in Mississippi sits in the foothills of the state’s Appalachian mountains. The park offers a few options, like the other parks mentioned above. At the same time, it provides a different aesthetic. Tishomingo State Park evokes Appalachia, complete with dense, green woods. Guests can stay in RV campsites, cabins and primitive campsites.
Moving out west, we come across some different terrain. Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah is a great destination for camping and is completely different from any other park or lake on this list. The park has two campgrounds and is open year-round, making it another good option for families. If the sites don’t do it for you, there is plenty of backcountry camping offered as well.
