Tucked among a thick forest of evergreen trees, Skamania Lodge sits slightly elevated on a bluff, providing guests an uninterrupted view of the misty Columbia Gorge between Oregon and Washington states. The lodge has a collection of Adirondak chairs and an outdoor fire pit from which to enjoy the view over s’mores (fixings are available at the front desk) or an adult beverage.
The lodge itself is designed to mimic a National Park lodge, with its elegant rusticity and ample use of wood and stone. The design is continued in the guest rooms, which include original Northwest artwork, Northwest-style furnishings and views of the river or the surrounding forest.
One highlight of the lodge’s seemingly endless list of amenities is the heated pools. Skamania features an indoor heated swimming pool as well as outdoor hot tubs, providing a perfect way to relax even if the weather isn’t cooperating. Or if you’ve just spent a long day hiking in the Gorge.
Other amenities include a day spa with a range of treatments, an 18-hole golf course, fitness center, zip line course, nature trails, tennis, basketball and volleyball. On the dining side, the upscale Cascade Dining Room features Northwest cuisine paired with an extensive wine list, and the more casual River Rock restaurant. In-room dining is also available if you just can’t bear to pull yourself away from your private view.
